GOOD TO KNOW

A few useful answers.

What is an IFSC code?

The Indian Financial System Code identifies a bank branch for Indian payment systems such as NEFT and RTGS. It has 11 characters: four bank letters, a zero, and a six-character branch identifier. It is separate from the recipient’s account number.

How do I find the right branch?

Choose the bank, then its state and city. Open the branch record and compare its name and address with the details supplied by the recipient. A nearby branch is not necessarily the correct branch for an account.

Why does the bank name sometimes differ within a group?

Some bank prefixes are used for sponsored institutions. We group records by their four-letter IFSC prefix and preserve the bank name from the source on every individual record.

Does every listed branch currently support NEFT, RTGS or IMPS?

The detail pages show the flags recorded in the selected source release. They are not live network-status checks. Branch mergers, bank changes and account restrictions can affect the instructions you need.

Can I use an IFSC instead of a SWIFT code?

They identify institutions in different payment contexts. An IFSC is used in Indian payment instructions; a SWIFT/BIC is an international institution identifier. Ask the receiving bank for the full instructions appropriate to your payment.
