What is a CLABE?
CLABE stands for Clave Bancaria Estandarizada. It is an 18-digit account identifier used in Mexico, including in SPEI payment instructions. Ask the recipient for the CLABE shown by their account provider.
Is a CLABE the same as a debit card number?
No. A CLABE has 18 digits. A card number is a different identifier. Some payment services accept other identifiers, but you should enter a CLABE here rather than a card number or a shorter domestic account number.
What does a successful check mean?
The value has 18 numeric digits and satisfies the weighted check-digit calculation. The result also separates the bank code, plaza code and account portion.
How does the bank lookup work?
The first three digits are matched to a bank-code reference. Bank-name lookup and the mathematical format check are shown separately.
Why do you show a plaza code without a city name?
The result shows the three-digit plaza segment as it appears in the CLABE.
Can you fix a CLABE that fails?
The result identifies the failed check. Review the original 18-digit CLABE and enter the corrected value to run the check again.
